The sprinklers misting over the day’s parched grass
and white fences pop up in the strangest places
as if the neighbors want to take themselves back to their youth
but they seem so out of place here
As i yawn and arch my back on the porch lost in reverie’s embrace
awkward childrens flashlight game has not been erased
just forgotten by some.
My weariness overwhelms with the memory of last weekends goodbye
getting caught by fountains rain- ill disguised excuses for attention- and the kisses are given away like a consolation prize. A blessing really we feel so much.
A kickball bounce can be heard in the distance and i should be getting back.
Was this summer everything she promised she’d be? Echoed with confusion my destiny and where i should end up?
Mixed in with feelings for one who is afraid of me sometimes. With too much to say and not enough time.
I should be getting back ,my hometowns calling in for me to lie in the backyard and dwindle into linear line ear. These languid afternoons ahead of me. With time to think about what i’ve done, and what i am going to do.
